God Is Fighting For Us!

As I approach this Thanksgiving, I find myself immersed in a whole new level of gratefulness and, with that, a whole new level of praise to God for His many blessings in my life.

I talked to someone yesterday who was telling me about how God healed her. She said there’s no way she could ever sing praise songs the same way; the lyrics have become very real to her because her experience with her Savior is so real.

I get that. When we have a genuine encounter with the living God, everything else comes alive – even our worship.

Lately, I’ve been really enjoying the song, The Lion and the Lamb.

“He’s roaring with power, and fighting my battles.”

That’s one of my favorite lines because it reminds me of the awesomeness of God and His power to save. I have this visual of Him as a mighty warrior, coming to the rescue of those who are calling for help.

No matter what we may face, let’s take heart and be encouraged to know we serve a great God.

Nothing is too big for Him! Nothing is too difficult! Nothing is impossible!

Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me? Jeremiah 32:37

The Lord who rules over all has planned it. Who can stop him? He has reached out his powerful hand. Who can keep him from using it? Isaiah 14:27

Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26

And one of the elders said to me, “Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.” Revelation 5:5

For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Revelation 7:17

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

A Reason To Sing

I’m sure at some point, like me, you’ve visited one of those churches where the worship is non-existent. Where the congregation sits expressionless through one lifeless song after another and the poor pastor seems resigned to sad fact that the Spirit has left the building.

(Okay, I know that God’s Spirit resides in believers rather than buildings and worship is more than singing songs, but you get the point.)

“The engagement of the heart in worship is the coming alive of the feelings and emotions and affections of the heart.  Where feelings for God are dead, worship is dead.”
John Piper

When we forget the One who has given us a reason to sing, our “house of worship” turns into just a plain, old house. But God desires the honest and heartfelt praises of His people.

But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:23-24

True worship is communion between our spirit and His. It is a life-source for us, like this umbilical connection with the eternal. And it is birthed out of our appreciation of how great He is and how blessed we are for the unmerited grace He has given us.

And when true worshipers gather together, as seen in the video below, it’s a faint glimpse of what I imagine heaven will be like. The redeemed of God, from all over the world, raising up their voices in one inspiring song of praise.

Now that’s a reason to sing!

After this I saw a vast crowd, too great to count, from every nation and tribe and people and language, standing in front of the throne and before the Lamb. They were clothed in white robes and held palm branches in their hands.
And they were shouting with a great roar,

“Salvation comes from our God who sits on the throne
    and from the Lamb!”

And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living beings. And they fell before the throne with their faces to the ground
and worshiped God.
They sang,

“Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom
    and thanksgiving and honor
and power and strength belong to our God
    forever and ever! Amen.”

Revelation 7:9-12
