Feasting on Thanks at The Harvest Party

It’s Harvest Party Wednesday and I’ve been thinking…

Isn’t it interesting that a month centered on giving thanks coincides with the month that ushers in growing reports of depression in people?

If you’re there, go here to AHolyExperience.com and read more about how writing down things you’re grateful for can help.

Because, when you really think about it, we all have some reason to be thankful. Sometimes, we just need a reminder.

So here’s another creative way to count blessings…Read about the 5 kernels of corn idea at StoneGableBlog.com

Or how about baking thanks right into the thanksgiving meal with these Gratitude Rolls from BeautyandBedlam.com

Let’s learn to be grateful so that we can teach the next generation how to be. Here are 10 ways from TheBetterMom.com.

May your November find you feasting on thanks from God’s harvest of blessings.

A Can-Do Attitude

Today’s word prompt for Five Minute Friday is “Laundry.” I’m also linking up with Fellowship Fridays and Freedom Fridays.
Here goes…

There are things I need to do,

and then there is the laundry list of excuses

I tell myself.

All the reasons I Can’t do,

Can’t move,

Can’t be.

Can’t, Can’t, Can’t.

Then I hear a voice say

“You can…

You can do all things through me.

I will give you strength.”

Thank you Jesus.

I should listen to you more often.

Make that, all the time.

Help me to listen to you always,

on all my can’t days,

so that you can turn me from a negative into a positive.

A woman with a can-do attitude.

No more excuses.

Five Ways to Make Memorial Day Memorable

It’s Memorial Day weekend here in the U.S.A., a day set aside for remembrance of those who have given their lives in service to our country.

Families will gather together, firing up backyard grills and taking time to celebrate life!  Especially the lives of those who died to make sure we can continue waving the flag of freedom.

Five ideas to help bring a patriotic theme into your weekend plans

1. Here’s some classic recipes and a few with a flourish of red, white and blue.

2. I made these lemon-filled coconut cupcakes a few weeks ago so I can tell you they are good! I made a couple of adjustments (apple sauce replaced oil and I substituted almond milk for sour cream) but they were very tasty. You might consider adding blueberries & raspberries to the top of these to keep with the theme. Both go nicely with lemon.

3. In this post, Debbie shows how she incorporates the spirit of the day through her decor – This girl knows how to set a table!

4. Check out these fun activities to help introduce the meaning of the day to your kids.

5. Don’t forget 3pm – The National Moment of Remembrance designates 3pm on Memorial Day as a time for all Americans “To voluntarily and informally observe in their own way a Moment of remembrance and respect.”

What other ideas do you have? Please share in the comments, and have a blessed weekend!

Spring is Here – Let the Blooming Begin!

Our Lord has written the promise of the resurrection, not in books alone,
but in every leaf in spring-time. – Martin Luther
A new season was officially crowned this week.
So I thought I’d celebrate with some inspiring ideas
to help us spring into Spring this weekend!

Now is a great time for bringing the outside in. Love this look!
This seems like a simple, practical and fun project!
Not sure if I’m brave enough to try this, but doesn’t it look divine? I’m craving strawberries!
And here’s a song that not only has the appropriate title for this post, it happens to have a great message that echoes thoughts I recently wrote about here.
This time of year, it’s easy to see “the promise of the resurrection” in the new buds and blooms springing out of the earth. But it’s harder to see what God is birthing in the landscape of our hearts.

Sometimes we just need to be reminded that a new season is coming.
That the same God who made the rain to fall and the sun to rise made us to
bloom!
