3 Ways to Create a Joy-filled Life

“Let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice.” Psalm 105:3b

Something I’ve been thinking about more and more lately is the idea of discovering joy in everyday life. It’s easy to feel good when exciting things happen to us, but what about the average, “blah” days?

Here are 3 ways to create a more joy-filled life based on Matthew 7:7 which says, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

1. ASK the Lord to reveal His presence in every detail of life. We have to be intentional about uncovering the beauty and the good that lies all around us. I admit, it is not always easy to do. Like anything else, it takes practice to train our eyes to look at things differently. This pertains to both our physical eyes and our spiritual eyes as well.

2. SEEK joy even in the mundane. We must not overlook the simple things. Along those lines, I was happy to find this wonderful video series on Guideposts.com. This episode of Destination Inspiration shows guest Samantha Brown of the Travel Channel talking about her favorite spots in New York. It made me think about places where I’ve experienced similar inspiration and reminded me that, most of the time, it is wrapped up like hidden treasure in the most unassuming and obscure places, waiting to be discovered by adventurous hearts.

3. KNOCK and don’t be afraid when the door opens. It’s okay to enter that world where feeling and emotion are stirred rather than suppressed. We should allow ourselves to explore and even linger awhile, soaking in the mystery of the moment. Contemplate, for instance, what is so moving about a walk through the neighborhood park. Is it the feel of sunshine on your face, the smell of flowers perfuming the air or the sound of children playing nearby? Whatever it is, don’t rush. Wait. Reflect. Pause and give thanks for the blessing of being able to have that experience. It’s amazing how gratitude can change your attitude!

Today, I pray we will open our eyes wide, breathe deep and, with expectant hearts, seek out and discover the not-so-hidden, little everyday treasures that will lead us to a more joy-filled life.

Seize the ‘Moment’

I saw an inspiring new show last night called Live For The Moment. The story of a 41 man named Roger Childs was highlighted as he embarked on the adventure of a lifetime. What made the story so special was the fact that, while suffering the debilitating effects of a fatal disease known as ALS, Roger was able to share his desire to embrace life with joyful determination.

The overall message of the show, and Roger as well, is that we should live each day to the fullest. This simple, age-old message is one that we can all agree with, but few of us seem to be able to adhere to it as a way of life. Read more about how to Seize the ‘Moment’.

We need these reminders to keep us focused on this one truth: All we are promised is today. Let’s make the most of it.
