Why We Can Believe In Miracles

This one is adapted from the archives with a Christmas video added at the end of the post that I think you’ll enjoy…

When hearts are fragile, that’s when they may be most faith-filled — believing in miracles before life makes sense. Ann Voskamp

Believe - Finding The InspiringWe want to believe in miracles. Especially at Christmastime and, really, at all times.

But sometimes life makes it hard.

Like frozen ice hard.

And as a winter storm turns liquid to solid, pain can turn a heart cold.

Suddenly, pulsing flesh can feel like a cocoon of crystallized tears.

And, yes, we could let the hurts of this hurting world overcome us. Let all that bends us break us.

But this is not who we are.

“We are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved. Hebrews 10:39

We are believers.

We may be fragile, but we are faith-filled.

Even when that faith seems more like a toothpick than an ice pick, and we wonder if we will ever be able to touch the tender petals of hope again.

We keep believing because Jesus gives us reason to believe.

His star, still guiding us through the darkest winters of our souls, birthing faith in us before life makes sense.

The wise men had it. So did Mary and Joseph. And so do we.

Faith. This gift from God. Evidence of things not seen.

This is the miracle that melts away all doubt.

There will be a springtime. There will come a thaw. And, as we wait, we sing.

Our praises wrapped in warm breath, like angels wings, rising to heaven in frost-covered air.

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:5

Oh, Light of the World, shine on us today. Whatever the situation, help us to draw near to you. Let us rest in your presence. The place where all miracles begin.

One of my favorite Christmas songs is Breath of Heaven by Amy Grant. This year, the chorus has taken on new meaning and has become my prayer. Maybe it’s yours too?

Breath of heaven
Hold me together
Be forever near me
Breath of heaven

Breath of heaven
Lighten my darkness
Pour over me your holiness
For you are holy

Breath of Heaven…

Be blessed –

Fear Not

FTI Fear not quote pic

Fear not. Fear not. Fear not. This is what the Lord keeps saying to me. However, to say yesterday was a distressing day is an understatement. There were multiple conversations with doctors, by phone and in person, with me asking as many questions as I could to help me decide whether to pull the plug or not on my next recommended surgery…which happens to be today.

Did I let fear overwhelm me? Yes. In a major way.

But, as God does, He spoke again. I came home and just wanted to collapse from the weight of it all. But before I settled into the couch, I picked up the open Bible on the table nearby and settled into His word.

I had it opened to the Psalms but there is a devotional text in this particular Bible that had a quote from Isaiah which seems to be finding it’s way to me through various sources. My eyes landed on this:

“For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.” Isaiah 41:13

So, I’m holding onto His hand today and trusting He will help me. If you are going through a trial, this is for you too. God always keeps His promises.

Here’s one of those ways God sent this message to me. This video teaching from Andy Stanley is worth a watch.

The Answer to All Our Questions

“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.”
Isaiah 40:8

I’m convinced that the only way to know right from wrong in a world gone wrong is to cling to the Word of God.

The Word unchanging.

The Word that changes everything.

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.”
Matthew 24:35

If you’re searching for direction, let the Word of God be your guide. It holds the answers to all our questions.

Prayer:
Father, you have blessed us with your Word. Help us open up the holy pages, open our hearts and allow you to open our eyes to the truth.

Amen.

A Blessing For The Believing

The blinds on the windows are closed today, Nothing much to look at. Just gray skies. A bit of rain. Downright gloomy, you might say.

But I just heard those birds chirping. Seems they decided to sing anyway, to act like it’s spring even when it doesn’t look or feel like it.

FTI Blessed Believers

And it makes me curious. So I peek out, searching in vain for the winged creatures that defy gravity and, at least on this day, common sense.

I cannot see them, but the sound of them lets me know that all is well.

And I imagine the days following Jesus’ ascension into heaven when His followers were waiting behind closed doors, windows shut tight, hearts clinging to invisible hope.

Suddenly, the promised Comforter, The Holy Ghost, God’s Spirit, came upon them, overwhelming their dark with the light of a new day.

But they did not see Him. The first sign of His presence was a sound. The sound of “a mighty rushing wind.”

And the first sign of our faith is the sound of our praise, the songs we sing to God even on dark days.

Listen. Jesus is speaking. His promise still whispers from the holy pages.

“Blessed are they who have not seen and yet have believed.” John 20:29

Blessed are those who put their trust in God, who hope in things unseen, even when it makes no human sense.

Blessed are the believing.

The sun is beginning to drip from the cloud-soaked sky. Can you hear it?

It is the sound of gloom lifting and doubt falling, making way for spring, the joy of a new day dawning.

“And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.” Acts 2:2

Heavenly Father,
When life makes it difficult to see you,
let us hear you. May we be assured that you are
bringing something beautiful our way, even
when it doesn’t look or feel like it.
A new day is about to dawn.
Help us to believe.

For When You Really Just Want To Run and Hide

Cross and Verse Hiding Place

On days when the enemy looms large

and you’re feeling small;

when it seems as if just staying alive

will take every last ounce of strength you have,

DON’T GIVE UP!

Keep moving.

Keep believing.

Because Jesus has made a way of escape.

Through a cross of wood, cut out of a tree,

He carved out hope.

And when it came to securing our freedom,

He left no stone unturned.

Now, the talons of fear cannot touch us

because the enemy has been defeated.

And we rest in the heart of the One who is our shelter.

Our safe haven.

Our salvation.
