When It’s Time To Do Something Radical

“Jesus has commanded each of us to make disciples, and this is the means by which we will impact the world…by spending our lives for the good of others and the glory of God.” Excerpt from the book Radical by David Platt

Salt & LightI’ve been struggling for words lately. God has been stirring the waters of my soul and it feels like I’ve been swimming in circles.

But I just realized there’s been a central message throughout all of these seemingly disconnected ideas, thoughts and emotions I’ve been splashing around in, and it is this:

GOD IS ALL-POWERFUL!

And I guess He really wanted that truth to sink in because it’s seems just about every scripture or book I’ve read and every sermon or song I’ve heard has been saturated with it.

That includes Radical, the awesome book by David Platt, which I’ve decided should be required reading for every Christian. Seriously!

I’m thankful for the reminder that God is still on the throne and that the good news will always outweigh the bad news. Always.

Because if I didn’t believe in God’s ultimate power and authority, I might be overcome with fear or dread or anxiety when confronted with disturbing headlines.

WHAT TO DO

Okay, so it’s hard to argue the fact that the world seems to be falling apart. The question I’ve been wrestling with is, “What in the world can I do about it?”

I mean, what really can be done when everything around me, in me, feels so undone?

Well, I don’t have all the answers but I know Who does and, again, it comes back to this:

GOD IS ALL-POWERFUL! The world may be falling apart, but He isn’t.

And, if we want to change the world, we have to first allow the power of God to change us. We have to pray that the Holy Spirit will move us from apathy to action so that we can be who we are called to be.

SALT and LIGHT

In the weeks to come, for as long as God grants me the grace to do so, I intend to write a series of posts to help us grow our awareness of the issues facing our culture while also growing in a greater understanding of God’s work in the world and how we can be a part of it.

I pray that, together, we will go about sprinkling truth into unsavory places and shining light into the depths of darkness for the good of others and for the glory of God!

P. S. Here’s one of those songs that God used to get me all stirred up. 🙂 If you’ve got a few minutes to spare, it’s worth your time. Enjoy!

I’d really love your feedback! Let me know if you think these are the ramblings of a crazy woman or if God has been speaking to you in a similar way.

  1. Angel, your “stand and cry” comment at Debbie’s caught my attention, and I stopped by see check out your blog. So glad I did! Yours are NOT the words of a crazy woman but rather the stirring of God in the midst of a Church off-track. My husband authored the book Debbie recommended in her comment above. You can learn more about Dirty Faith on his website: http://www.davidznowell.com. I hope you’ll read it, review it, and encourage others to do the same. As a follower (not just a believer), I know in my heart it contains a message the Church needs to hear. …Now I’m going to sign up to get your future blog posts. Stop by My Place to Yours when you get a chance so I can introduce myself to you. 🙂

    • Nice to meet you Susan! Thanks for stopping by and sharing the info about your husband’s book. I will be sure to check it out, as well as your blog too. Blessings!

    • That’s great Janette! It’s awesome how God stirs each of our hearts to do His work in the earth. Blessings!

  2. Are you inside my life, heart, and HEAD this morning? This couldn’t have been a better post for me to read. I love “Radical” and also the Bible study that Platt did as a follow up. Currently, I’m reading an advance copy of a book by the husband of a fellow blogger called “Dirty Faith”. It follows much of the same conviction but isn’t just “more of the same”. When it is released, I hope you read it.

I am really turned about by the culture these days. I will look forward to your posts.

(And now, I need to click some links in this post to read and listen. )
