Main Street Meandering – A Simple Pleasure

There are few things more fun and relaxing to me than a window shopping stroll down Main Street, U.S.A. Anytime my husband and I visit a place with a quaint downtown district, my feet instinctively begin moving towards the welcoming shops. More times than not, I end up wiling away long hours without buying a thing. After all, that’s not the point, really.

I’m just happy to be taking in the sights and sounds and aromas of every little detail surrounding me. And, since Autumn seems to bring out my nesting nature, I find these little ventures are a way to get great decorating ideas for my home. I should tell that to my perplexed husband who has so often endured my trance-like shopping treks. “See, honey, there is a practical side to these seemingly meaningless, random meanderings.”

So, as I wing my way from shop to shop, I gather beauty with my eyes. I perch, still, at each enchanting display filled with vibrant colors and textures, old trinkets mixed with new. Like the one here.
And, even though my heart quickens, my steps become slow, more deliberate. I move carefully through the jam-packed aisles, touching pieces of fabric and books and old wooden frames. I take time to smell each candle to determine if it’s fragrance matches the name on the jar. My senses come alive! Just as they did when I floated down the vintage staircase into the basement of the antique bookstore pictured below.
Today, I am thankful for the simple pleasure of shopping on Main Street.
Because, through this slow-paced meandering, inspiration is found, ideas are sparked and dreams are born. At least that’s what happens to me.
What about you?

I’ve included a scripture below in response to Lynn’s request for us to share an inspirational verse. This one brings comfort, reminding me that God is my provider, filling me with good things. Because of Him, I can enjoy life’s simple pleasures and be thankful.
“For He has satisfied the thirsty soul, And the hungry soul He has filled with what is good.” Psalm 107:9

  1. Lovely post!!! Beautiful photos, and I love the encouragement to slow down and meander. In this fast-paced, hurry/hurry world we live in, meandering is pure delight.

  2. Angel, I am happy to have found your blog through Karen’s. In your profile you state … “writing about the things that inspire me in hopes of inspiring others…”
That statement alone sell’s me on your blog.
My blog is about 3 weeks old, and I would love to have you visit if you get the chance.
I look forward to your future post.
    Blessings, —Michele Katherine

  3. I do the exact same thing and enjoy it very much. I so agree that it sparks dreams and inspiration. I know God uses it very much in my life.

Thank you for sharing and for stopping by my place too. Have a lovely weekend.

  4. “I gather beauty with my eyes.” — This was so beautifully expressed! There’s something so warm and welcoming about autumn decorations, and I absolutely love wandering through the little shops clustered in the main streets of smaller communities.

Thank you for stopping by to visit my blog!

  5. This is yet another thing that gives me great enjoyment as well. I love to roam through quaint shops and “Main Street” places like that.

I got a giggle out of what you do with the candles because I do the exact same thing! Even more, I like to smell them and then make up a creative name for the smell then see how well it matches up to the one on it.

    Yeah, I’m kind of goofy.
And this was a great simple pleasure, Angel.

  6. Angel, you have shared one of the things I enjoy most, and when you said, “through this slow-paced meandering, inspiration is found, ideas are sparked and dreams are born,” I had a whole new appreciation for meandering through shops. Such a lovely way to describe the experience.

So glad you linked up today!

  7. Angel, this is one of my favorite simple pleasures as well, I also stop and meander touching, and smelling. This makes me want to grab my purse and go. I am so glad you shared this.
