“The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.” Psalm 23: 1-3
I read this article today by Anne Simpkinson on The Power of Silence.
It made me think about how much our spirit craves quiet and how, too often, we feed it a fast-food diet of noise and distraction. But God calls us to stillness.
“Be still, and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
There are times when stress can weigh us down, leave us starved for strength and struggling to breathe. There is only one thing that can lift our weary heads and revive our weakened hearts. We need a retreat. And He is our example.
“But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” Luke 5:16
We need to find a place of solitude. A place where we can settle ourselves down at the feet of Jesus and find true rest, healing and renewal. Have you found that place?
Today, I am enjoying a long-awaited and welcome rain. And, with it, silence.
Is your spirit craving silence today? Ask the Lord to show you how to make time for quiet contemplation and prayer. Be blessed!
